This is a three-day course exploring what Martin Scorsese calls, ‘the psychic strength of the lens’: to discover the power of YOU on screen.
Day 1: We’ll cover the differences between live performance and camera work. Then we’ll look at YOU on screen, telling a real story from your own life. (Actors rarely see themselves as themselves!) We’ll move into short monologues (supplied) seeing how to stay alive in the role – keeping your own charisma and shiny eyes... (short scenes supplied for work on Day 2/3).
Day 2: This will contain a technical know-how session with a professional DOP who will guide you how to use simple, home equipment for e-casting. Tips and tricks to stay connected, fight nerves and keep confidence. Being a ‘Text Detective’. How to work on a scene – using many different ways to build muscle memory, find the ‘AS IF...’ of you in the role, explore relationships, identify needs and put pictures in your head –but without ever deciding HOW to play it – so that you are free and ‘in the moment’ when performing.
Day 3: Using the provided scenes, we’ll shoot in close-up. Playback. Feedback.
These three days will be very practical and allow you to work individually to your strengths and needs. We will explore strategies from the physical to the psychological and include technical tips and play-backs on screen throughout.
Please note: This course will be entirely in English.
